Lufthansa signs Google Flights to by-pass travel agents in the U.S.

The addition of the service, called “Book on Google,” means that Google Flights users won’t be bumped to LH.com after selecting a Lufthansa flight from a search result. Lufthansa is the first legacy carrier to offer booking in Google Flights, and the service will be especially useful to those who are booking through a mobile device.

Lufthansa signed a series of ‘direct connect’ deals to by-pass global distribution systems in Germany and a deal with Google Flights to by-pass travel agents in the US. The deals will avoid the €16 Distribution Cost Charge Lufthansa imposed on all GDS bookings at the start of September.
